How Much Sex Is Enough???

Posted by KYeakle on May 28, 2010 at 10:30 PM

In today's society, sex sells.  I know that when I pick up a romance novel, regardless of what type of romance it is, I expect to find some hot and heavy scenes.

I will admit I have read some really good young adult novels that peak your interest without all the details, but what I am writing is not young adult.

So, I'm asking myself a very valid question, how much sex is enough?  I don't want my novel to be overflowing with it, but I need to put some in there.  I want you to feel the character's spark for each other, feel the heat they feel, find yourself wishing it was you in their place.

In the first rough draft, I had none, and at the end of the day the story was there, but the heat was missing.  Now as I start rewriting Chapter 10, almost halfway through the novel, I need to light a fire.

So I must ask, as romance readers....how much sex is enough???

I think it is a nice addition to a novel, I personally like the sex included in Sandra Browns books and Emily Giffens novels as well. I think the basic sex is enough with little steamy additions :)

As much as you feel comfortable with writing. I had the same question after my Dad- he's 79 was grumbling about too much sex in my novels. I asked a few of my fans on textnovel and from what they said they enjoy the scenes- a few said they read more erotica romance so mine were tame.
